Tyler Lee and Carla Cornejo Plascencia have been handed a 4-year ban following violations of the CrossFit Games Drug Testing Policy. Both athletes, who participated in team competitions, failed drug tests during the Semifinals.
Tyler Lee, representing CrossFit Mayhem Somos, tested positive for 3a-hydroxy-2a-methyl-5a-androstan-17-one, a metabolite of Drostanolone, along with GW1516-sulfone and GW1516-sulfoxide, which are metabolites of GW501516, at the North America East Semifinal.
Meanwhile, Carla Cornejo Plascencia, from CrossFit Complex Wodex, was found to have 16a-hydroxy-1-methyl-5a-androst-1-en-3,17-dione and 3a-hydroxy-1-methylene-5a-androstan-17-one, both metabolites of metenolone, in her system during the North America West Semifinal.
Carla wrote on her instagram, “For those who are not part of this world, it is complex to understand all the implications of the process behind an accusation or sanction for the use of prohibited substances, and the only thing I will say is that there are elements that must be fulfilled and that are not on the table. Despite this, and the possible future sanction I face, I will continue to seek the best scenario for my future as an athlete.”
Despite appealing their test results, both athletes were unsuccessful in overturning their sanctions. They are now facing a 4-year suspension, set to last until May 2028.
