The HYROX World Championship is taking place this week, June 12th to 15th in Chicago, Illinois.
Over the last year HYROX has experienced huge growth and we will see an expanded world championship to reflect the surge in interest and participation. For the first time there will be a four-day format with the different divisions competing on separate days.
Now athletes will be able to compete in both Singles and Doubles divisions and viewers will have more opportunities to follow what has become a festival of fitness.
The pinnacle of the event will be the elite 15 races where Alexander Roncevic and Megan Jacoby will respectively defend their titles against the top 15 men and top 15 women of the season.
Roncevic, competing out of Austria, will face strong competition from the likes of James Kelly, who set a world record in Glasgow with a time of 53:22. Kelly took that record from Hunter McIntyre, the three-time HYROX world champion who has had a slower season by his standards, but given his exceptional experience he can’t be counted out.
One athlete we will be watching carefully in the men’s race is Dylan Scott. He just set a blisteringly fast time of 53:27 on a busy course in New York and is very much on an upward trajectory.
On the women’s side Lauren Weeks has the most HYROX wins and the world record but Joana Wietrzyk has burst onto the scene this year. Competing out of Australia and still only 22 she has been rapidly improving all season and may be set to peak at the perfect time.
You will be able to watch the elite 15 races live on YouTube. See all the action here.
