Becoming one of the best bodybuilders of all time is no easy task. Dorian Yates, 6x Mr Olympia, recently reveled his routine and how he sculpted his abs and core. He drew inspiration from the iconic martial arts actor Bruce lee; known for the youthful and ripped physique that he maintained throughout his career.
This is inspiring because it shows that his legacy has projected through to others like Dorian Yates.
On his social’s recently, Mr. Yates has explained what he does to get and maintain those abs.
The ab workout routine consists:
- 2x bodyweight crunches to failure
- 2x bodyweight reverse crunches to failure
That is the routine, it’s not overly extensive but it certainly gets strong and defined abs. When Dorian Yates spoke about this routine, he said that he used to do it with free weights instead of doing it to failure but that made him “blocky”. It is important to mention that he would do this once a week after completing his exercises on the other major muscle groups like triceps and shoulders.
A key detail he mentions when talking about abs are body fat percentage and genetics, both of these are important when it comes to crafting your physique. Now genetics are out of your control, not much can be done about them. Some individuals can build and sustain muscle for longer whilst other cannot. Body fat percentage however is controllable through an intelligent and practical diet and nutrition plan.

Now at the elder age of 67, he has decided to focus specially on the recovery and the mobility of his body. By doing Pilates he is allowing his body to recover correctly from a routine but serious procedure such as a hip replacement surgery.
