BOXROX Interview with Tim Wenisch
Pre Race Preparation
In the run-up to the 2025 HYROX World Championships, he arrived in Chicago 10 days early to acclimate both physically and mentally. This extra time allowed him to settle into the environment, refine his routines, and focus on the task ahead.
In the gym he talked about how he felt during that run up to the race, and it became clear that his confidence was built on intelligent and relentless hard work.
Race Day Execution
On race day, Wenisch was determined to stay in control and run his own race. He didn’t react impulsively to others. Instead, he remained mentally strong and made real-time strategic adjustments based on the pacing of his competitors.
A defining moment came when he passed reigning champion Hunter McIntyre during a key running segment. This move showcased both confidence and tactical precision.
Throughout the entire race, Wenisch managed his energy wisely, even taking calculated rest breaks to avoid no-reps and costly penalties that could have derailed his performance.
Handling Pressure and Challenges
Early in the race, Wenisch received a yellow card during the burpee broad jumps—an unexpected hurdle that could have rattled even the most seasoned athlete. Instead, he composed himself quickly, maintaining both his technique and mental focus under pressure.
Hemingway said that “courage is grace under pressure”. Watching Wenisch live in Chicago, he embodied this completely.
Navigating the physical demands of the event while keeping a clear head became a critical part of his successful performance.

The field was stacked with elite talent, and Wenisch was well aware of the threats. He identified Hunter McIntyre, James Kelly, Alex Roncevic, and Dylan Scott as the key athletes for him to watch out for, each one a formidable competitor with the potential to take the title.
That awareness fueled his determination.
An Emotional Finish
Crossing the finish line, Wenisch described how he was overwhelmed by a wave of disbelief and elation. The victory wasn’t just personal—it was deeply emotional, made even more meaningful by the presence of close friends and his father.
Pro Doubles
In the Pro Doubles division, Tim Wenisch and Jannik Czapla executed what Tim later described as one of the smartest and most rewarding strategies of his racing career.
Early in the race, they made the tactical decision to let another team pass, allowing them to secure a more favorable sled lane—a move that paid off significantly.
Despite being hit with a 30-second penalty for a red card during the burpee station, their calculated pacing and teamwork helped them maintain a comfortable lead to the finish.
The victory was made all the more meaningful by sharing it with Jannik, turning a strategic masterclass into a personally special and triumphant moment of his career.
