Hafthor “The Mountain” Björnsson has once again etched his name into strength sports history, setting a new all-time world record deadlift of 505 kilograms (1,113.3 pounds) at his own gym in Iceland.
The lift surpasses his previous world record of 501kg, set in May 2020, and edges out Krzysztof Wierzbicki’s 502.5kg lift from 2022, reclaiming the top spot in one of the most hotly contested records in strength sports.
“505kg. We did it,” Björnsson posted on Instagram, following the lift.
Björnsson, now 35, initially retired from Strongman after winning the 2020 World’s Ultimate Strongman Feats of Strength series, focusing on boxing instead. But in recent months, Thor returned to heavy lifting, teasing the comeback with massive pulls in training – culminating in this historic lift.

With this monumental achievement, Björnsson has reasserted himself as one of the strongest men to ever walk the earth—and possibly opened the door for even bigger lifts in the future.
