Check out the action from the final event of day one of the 2025 CrossFit Games.

Individual Event 3 – Climbing Couplet

4-3-2-1 reps for time of:

  • Pegboard
  • Squat clean + front squat

Women: 145, 165, 185, 205 lb

Men: 235, 265, 285, 305 lb

In heat one, Meha and Quintero went head-to-head on the peg boards and barbells. Quintero had competed previously at the 2019 CrossFit Games as the National Champion of Colombia.

Meha, the engineer from Albania, won the heat with a time of 9.41. Neely came in second (10:01) with Quintero rounding out the top 3 in the first heat. Prevost and Meza from Mexico were both time capped.

In heat two Saghafi, Raptis and Domit climbed with considerable consistency. Saghafi was first onto the barbell. Her lifting looked effortless and smooth.  Her descents were quick as well, allowing her to minimize time under tension on the board. She was 17th overall after two events, and smiled her way through the last front squat before sprinting across the finish to secure the heat two win.

Heat three kicked off with the camera on Toomey-Orr’s daughter Willow in the crowd, chanting and cheering for her mum.

Lydia Fish the rookie was rapid on the first set of climbs. Lucy Campbell was also smooth up and down the pegboard. Campbell has returned this year to The CrossFit Games after two years of rehabbing a wrist injury. Campbell was unable to catch the barbell with two hands. Instead, she had to catch the barbell with one arm fully outstretched like a zombie squat.

Fish took the event win with a time of 9:30. Campbell was second, Maddie Sturt from Australia secured third place.

However, the final heat did not produce a time that could beat Saghafi.

Over in the male division heat one, Rozema came out hot, closely followed by Mertens. The former often not even needing to put his feet back on the ground between climbs.

One subtlety of the event was that the barbells were shorter. However this caused minimal difficulty for Rozema as he stormed through the barbells to earn a time of 6:09:10 and first place in heat one. Mertens finished in second, followed by Ellis in third.

Heat two saw James Sprague explode up the pegboard. Magda, Clements and Ibarra offered chase. Sprague worked confidently through the workout and fired through the final barbell complex, demonstrating that he has been working on his lifting strength since last year.

Jay Crouch sat in second place going into Event three. Garard sat on top of the leaderboard. This was the first time at The CrossFit Games that we’ve seen two Aussie men in the top two positions.

Hopper, Lightfoot, Crouch, Adler, Khrennikov and Medeiros all set a fast initial pace. Hopper was the man to beat with a time of 5:34:90. Khrennikov was breathing down his neck to snatch second place. Adler missed a lift and lost a few positions to Medeiros. The final heat was an exciting race that clearly demonstrated the parity between the male athletes. This is going to be a fun weekend to watch the male division.
