Day two of the 2025 CrossFit Games kicked off with the Albany Grip Trip.

Individual Event 4 – Albany Grip Trip

5 rounds for time of:

  • 400-meter run
  • 12 deadlifts
  • 100-foot handstand walk

Final round has a 150-foot handstand walk instead.

Women: 220-lb deadlift

Men: 350-lb deadlift

In heat one Nick Mathew was quick on the deadlifts, which were performed on the axle bar instead of a normal Olympic bar. Rozema and Mertens also looked solid, with Leahy strong and confident, moving through rounds with quick and precise transitions.

Going into the final handstand walk of 150 feet, Leahy didn’t even rest after finishing the deadlifts. But it wasn’t enough to catch Mathews, who secured the win.

Jay Crouch and Jason Hopper went into the second day (and heat two) tied in points, with Hopper wearing the leader jersey. In the event, Crouch was first off the runner and consistently cycled smoothly through the transitions. Hatfield, Adler and Souza moved up the field during the second run. Sprague quietly ascended the rankings, making up ground on his deadlift and handstand walk splits.

Jay Crouch won the event, followed by Souza, (Brazillian athlete that trains in the UAE). In the post event interview, the Aussie was confident about the back squat 1RM that will follow during the second event of the day.

Over on the women’s side, heat one saw Muir, Walton and Meza establish the early pace. Walton the Aussie, in her second appearance at The Games, set a confident speed throughout every section. Fellow Aussie De Rooy and 10x Games athlete Brooke Wells both climbed up into the top three.

Walton won the heat with a time of 18:00:39.

In heat two Toomey, Cringle and Campbell set out strong. Kersetter and Meha rounded out the top 5 in the first round. Haley Adams also looked confident. Toomey and Campbell went head to head as they transitioned through the middle of the workout. Despite it only being Campell’s second time at the Games, she looked completely unafraid of Toomey. The UK athlete went unbroken on her deadlifts before powering through the final handstand walk section to take the win.

Toomey was no-repped on one of the final sections of the handstand walk, allowing Adams to pass her and secure second. Toomey crossed the line in third.

In the post event interview, Campbell was asked about her wrist injury and being able to get through hard times, she replied, “When you’re in it, resilience feels a lot like vulnerability”. Wise words from the outstanding athlete.
