HYROX has now introduced fast lane police to control their new “fast lane” feature at competitions. This lane is adjacent to, but separate from, the regular running track, and will allow more competitive athletes to move at a faster pace without having to negotiate the other runners.
HYROX Fast Lane
In order to be allowed to step into the track you must maintain a 4:00/km pace (≈6:26 mile). The fast lane police will specially monitor the speed of everyone in the lane. If you can’t keep up, you’re out of the lane.
Below you can see this in action in Perth, Australia.
The decision has been met with general support from the community. Many non-elite participants will benefit from not being bumped into, or holding anyone up, and will be able to more comfortably move at the speed that they desire.
Ash Harrell commented “Great idea IMO. I’m normally anywhere between 3:15 and 3:25 per k so you can imagine how hard it is not to clip people by mistake.”
Chris Bayerns stated “I ran in Perth. It worked really well. Sure some people may have been slightly over the 4min mark but they did a good job of clearing people that definitely shouldn’t have been in there.”
For elite athletes, or athletes that want to progress to that level, they now know exactly what they need to do in order to earn the advantage of running in a much emptier lane. However, if they can’t keep up, they will be thrown out of the lane.
