The 2023 CrossFit Games champion Jeff Adler has decided not to compete at the 2024 CrossFit Games. His decision is taken to honour Serbian athlete Lazar Dukic, who died during the swim section of Event 1 yesterday.

Adler wrote the following message on Instagram.

“The tragic passing of a friend and fellow competitor has left us shaken, mad, and heartbroken.”

“There are many ways to grieve, and I respect anyone’s decision going through this impossible situation.”

“I do not feel that taking the floor and competing in this state would do justice in honoring Lazar and his family this weekend. Therefore, I will not be participating at the 2024 CrossFit Games.”

“I not only need to process my emotions but my values also do not align with how the competition is proceeding.”

“For now, I hope you join me in sending Lazar’s family and community our deepest condolences.”

“You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.”
