CrossFit athletes Gabriela Migala and Henrik Haapalainen both had their Achilles torn during event 6 of the 2024 Rogue Invitational. They took to Instagram to explain a little bit further what happened and their next steps.
The event itself was titled “The Duel IV” with athletes going up and over a gigantic hay bale, a 50′ sled push, 4 power star steps.
According to the NHS, an Achilles tear can take from 3 to 12 months to recover, depending on the damage done, previous trauma, and recovery protocols. There are two treatment options available for Achilles tendon ruptures. These are non-operative (conservative) and operative (surgical) with varying levels of recovery for each of them.
Gabriela Migala made it to round 3, but after a couple of jumps over the hay bale, she simply stopped and did not finish the heat.
According to a post on Instagram, Migala explained that an injury to her left foot was the cause of her pulling out earlier than expected from competition.
“Unfortunately, on Saturday night, during the last workout, I tore my achilles, ending my competition.”
You can read below the entire post from Migala:
I came into @rogueinvitational ready & excited to show the world a new version of myself. During the first 5 workouts I felt incredibly strong, powerful, and most importantly I was having fun out on the competition floor.
Unfortunately, on Saturday night, during the last workout, I tore my achilles, ending my competition.
I’ve been going through a lot of emotions in the past 24 hours and I know that the road ahead of me will be long.
That being said, I have felt an incredible level of support from my fellow competitors, from friends, spectators, volunteers and most importantly from my family.
While this was not the way I wanted to leave the Rogue Invitational, I want to take a moment to thank Rogue fitness @caityhenniger @billhenniger and all of the volunteers for putting together an amazing event. The medical team for their help, all the fans for the energy in the stadium, and my sponsors for the continued support.
I’ll be back. I’ll be back stronger.
Henrik Haapalainen also felt acute pain in his foot while on top of the hay bale and did not continue the workout as prescribed.
On Instagram, he explained that he tore his Achilles tendon and was on his way to Finland (his home country) to talk to a specialist about how to recover from the injury and when he might be able to come back to competing.
Below is all he wrote on Instagram
Thank you @rogueinvitational for the awesome competition.
Sadly this year it ended early for me as I tore my achilles tendon in event 6 box get overs. Sucks but that’s sports sometimes..
I was really looking forward to the upcoming events but now my focus goes into recovering as well as possible and get back stronger.
Now I’m already on my way to Finland and haave an appointment with a top foot surgeon today.
Thank you for all the messages! ❤️
