HYROX has announced a key update to its Athlete License System and Anti-Doping Standards, reinforcing structure and fair play across its growing global elite field.
Effective immediately, any athlete aiming to qualify for an Elite 15 (E15) race via average time must hold a valid HYROX Athlete License for their race result to count toward qualification.
The change applies to all Pro race performances from Thursday, October 23 onward.
Only results achieved while an athlete’s license is active will contribute to their official E15 average time.
A 24-hour grace period applies for athletes racing on October 23, allowing retroactive license applications. Results recorded since the system’s introduction on September 1 through October 22 remain valid and unaffected by this update.
What This Means for Athletes
The HYROX Athlete License, launched earlier this season, formalizes eligibility for the Elite 15 and integrates anti-doping compliance into the qualification process.
Athletes can apply online via elite.hyrox.com, with licenses valid for one season. To gain Wave 1 prioritization, athletes must have recorded a completed Pro time within the past 12 months meeting the following benchmarks:
| Category | Time Requirement |
| Singles Men | 57:04 |
| Doubles Men | 51:48 |
| Singles Women | 1:03:21 |
| Doubles Women | 59:45 |
Strengthening Competitive Standards
According to HYROX Technical Director Mat Lock, the move ensures that performances contributing to the Elite 15 leaderboard are consistent, verifiable, and delivered under official anti-doping regulations.
“We’ve had a groundswell of support from athletes who want clarity, consistency, and a fair shot,” Lock said. “This change means that if you’re aiming for E15 qualification via time, you need to be licensed. It ensures that the performances shaping the E15 leaderboard are clean, verifiable, and delivered under the right conditions.”
The update follows strong engagement from elite athletes since the Athlete License Program launched in September. HYROX has also expanded the role of its Elite Athlete Advisory Panel and invested in further administration and infrastructure to support the next generation of competitors.

What is HYROX?

HYROX is a global fitness race that blends endurance, strength, and functional training into one consistent competition format. Every event around the world follows the same structure, allowing athletes to directly compare times and performance.
- Each race features eight 1 km runs and eight workout stations.
- Workout stations include the SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls.
- Events are divided into Singles, Doubles, and Relay categories, with divisions for all ages and ability levels.
- Because the format is identical worldwide, results feed into a global leaderboard, creating a clear benchmark for competitive fitness.
HYROX bridges the gap between functional training and endurance sport, bringing the gym floor into a standardized, measurable race environment.
