James Sprague Wins the 2024 CrossFit Games

James Sprague has done it! Incredible performance at the last day meant he won the 2024 CrossFit Games when the last workout finished this weekend in Fort Worth, Texas.

James Sprague knows what it means to be at the CrossFit Games, but he didn’t know what it meant to be on the podium, let alone the top of it. Sprague went to the Games twice as a teenager with best placement 4th when he was only 15 years old.

Last year, Sprague went to the Games for the first time as an individual athlete and finished 25th overall. This is a gigantic leap from one year to the next now that he is the Fittest Man on Earth after doing 10 workouts programmed at the 2024 CrossFit Games.

The 3 workouts James Sprague, and other athletes, had to do on the last day of competition were:

Dickies Triplet

5 rounds for time:

  • 175-meter run
  • 12 toes-to-bars
  • 8 alternating dumbbell snatches (70/100 lb)

And

Event 9: Final 2421

For time:

  • 24 thrusters (65/95 lb)
  • 24 chest-to-bar pull-ups
  • 80-foot yoke carry (245/425 lb)
  • 21 chest-to-bar pull-ups
  • 21 thrusters

Time cap: 5 minutes

Rest 2 minutes, then

Event 10: Final 1815

  • 18 thrusters (95/135 lb)
  • 18 bar muscle-ups
  • 80-foot yoke carry (345/525 lb)
  • 15 bar muscle-ups
  • 15 thrusters

Time cap: 7 minutes

And in the first event, Fikowski made some mistakes and finished 11th while Sprague closed the gap by finishing 5th. Because of this, the difference in points between the two was only 17 points. It was all or nothing for both athletes.

But, as you know because you read the title of this article, is that James Sprague managed to take over Brent Fikowski at the very last event. He went with it and managed to finish 4th in the last event and Brent Fikowski was below the top 10, which meant Sprague managed to edge out the Canadian at the very end. Fikowski actually finished 3rd.

Final leaderboard was:

  1. James Sprague – 806
  2. Dallin Pepper – 785
  3. Brent Fikowski – 765
