3rd Place Team at North America West Semifinal Disqualified After Failed Drug Test

CrossFit has announced another failed drug test after Semifinals. Carla Cornejo Plascencia, captain of CrossFit Complex Wodex, tested positive for multiple banned substances and her team, despite finishing 3^rd at Semifinals, have had their invitation to the Games rescinded. 8^th placed team Rhino CrossFit Dawgs has been invited to backfill the spot.

Carla Cornejo Plascencia is appealing to CrossFit’s drug test. Her results came back positive for a number of illegal substances, according to CrossFit:

• 16a-hydroxy-1-methyl-5a-androst-1-en-3,17-dione
• 3a-hydroxy-1-methylene-5a-androstan-17-one, metabolites of metenolone

The team finished 3^rd at the North America West Semifinal – the top 7 teams get an invitation to participate at the 2024 CrossFit Games – but because of her failed drug test, the team is automatically disqualified. Rhino CrossFit Dawgs, the team who finished 8^th at the same Semifinals, have received an invitation to backfill the spot.

Plascencia is the team captain of CrossFit Complex Wodex and her team members are 2x Games athlete Sasha Nievas, Esteban Ospina, and Ricardo Garcia.

This was going to be the first Games appearance for all members of the team except for Argentinian Sasha Nievas.

This is the 5th person to fail a drug test after Semifinals this year:

1. Ivan Kukartsev – 1^st place finisher at the Asia Semifinal – provided a sample on-site on May 19, 2024, that contained GW1516-sulfone and GW1516-sulfoxide, metabolites of GW1516, as well as LGD-4033 and dihydroxy-LGD-4033, metabolites of LGD-4033.
2. Ilias Kuliev – 3^rd place finisher at the Asia Semifinal – provided a sample on-site on May 19, 2024, that contained 3a-hydroxy-2a-methyl-5a-androstan-17-one, a metabolite of Drostanolone.
3. Anatolii Borisenko – 4th place finisher at the Asia Semifinal – provided a sample on-site on May 19, 2024, that contained GW1516-sulfone and GW1516-sulfoxide, metabolites of GW1516.
4. Tyler Lee – a member of CrossFit Mayhem Somos, 7^th place finisher at the North America East Semifinal – provided a sample on-site on June 1, 2024, that contained 3a-hydroxy-2a-methyl-5a-androstan-17-one, a metabolite of Drostanolone as well as GW1516-sulfone and GW1516-sulfoxide, metabolites of GW1516.
