6x CrossFit Games athlete Emma McQuaid announced she won’t be competing during the “shit show” that she believes the 2025 season will be. She appeared to be furious after CrossFit’s third-party investigation into Lazar Đukić death finalised.
Emma McQuaid wrote on Instagram, after resharing a post from Lazar Đukić’s brother, Luka Đukić, that the she will not be taking part in any of the events of the official 2025 CrossFit season.

Emma McQuaid has taken part in the CrossFit Open since 2014. She has been to the CrossFit Games on the last six consecutive years. Her best placement, so far, was 12th (2021 and 2022).
Why Is Emma McQuaid Not Competing in 2025 CrossFit
Regarded as the fittest woman in Ireland for the past six years, Emma McQuaid is not going to compete during the official CrossFit season in 2025 because of the death of Lazar Đukić and how CrossFit dealt with it in the aftermath.
Remind me: Lazar Đukić’s death, which took place on August 8th 2024 during the first event fo the CrossFit Games, was officially deemed as drowning, as reported by BOXROX. The day after the tragedy, CrossFit CEO Don Faul released a statement saying a third-party investigation was taking place. The CrossFit Games continued the following events with Dave Castro saying it has the blessing from Lazar’s brother, Luka (which turned out to be untrue). Throughout the days, a total of 13 individual athletes withdrew from competing for the title of Fittest on Earth.
A few days after the end of the 2024 CrossFit Games, Don Faul released another statement claiming that CrossFit is “committed to implementing any necessary changes that are determined based on the results of this investigation.”
And what happened with the third-party investigation? It recently concluded although the findings or a full report on it will not be made public by CrossFit due to “privacy and legal considerations.”
