WodLand Fest is in Malaga, Spain this weekend but in the past few days some big names have pulled out of this in-person qualifying event.

Fabian Beneito, the Spanish CrossFit veteran apologised on Instagram yesterday for not being able to compete in Malaga, saying he needed to think about himself and no one else at the moment. He didn’t go into more detail about why he wouldn’t be at Wodland, but there is speculation that he has been dealing with an injury.

One athlete who is definitely injured and out of WodLand is Michal Weselowski. He also took to Instagram yesterday to explain why he wouldn’t be competing this weekend, saying that he’s been suffering from serious health issues in the last few weeks.

He went on to say that he’s not able to train at even 60% at the moment, noting that he’s been having problems with his breathing and that recovery is taking him much longer than normal. On a more positive note Weselowski stated his problems do have a diagnosis and he is working towards a return to full health.

The third big name definitely out of WodLand is Sara Sigmundsdottir. She has not issued a statement but her coach has indicated her focus is on the Rebel Renegade Games, which begin on May 30th in South Africa.

While it’s disappointing to see some elite athletes will not be able to compete at WodLand, the line up for both men and women is still absolutely stacked. There are 62 men and 65 women scheduled to compete, including the likes of Jonne Koski, Moritz Fiebig, Calum Clements, Ella Wilkinson, Emelie Lundberg, Seungyeon Choi, Aniol Ekai, Roman Khrennikov, Colin Bosshard, Bronislaw Olenkowicz, Lucy Campbell, Andrea Solberg, Linda Keesman, and Jennifer Muir.
